Reported first by Spanish newspaper ‘MARCA’ and then confirmed by ‘The Athletic’, Aston Villa are interested in the services of the Spaniard and are willing to offer him a lucrative contract.
The interest is pushed by the departing Barça sporting director Mateu Alemany and supported by the team’s coach, Unai Emery.
Despite interest from Aston Villa and other clubs from Italy, Marco Asensio has made his priority clear and it is to stay at Real Madrid, but not at all costs. The player wants an important role in the squad and an increase in salary.
Negotiations have been ongoing between Marco Asensio and Real Madrid and according to reports, they are now closer to finding an agreement than they were few months ago, although nothing has been finalized as of today.
Aston Villa would be willing to offer Marco Asensio a contract worth €8M per year, which would be double the amount he currently earns at Real Madrid.
With that being said, it remains to be seen if Marco Asensio will be tempted to leave the Santiago Bernabéu for more money and the chance to have a prominent role in arguably the best league in the world. The season is coming to an end and everything will become clearer soon.
